Destinations’ overview of our 4 days desert trip from Marrakech itinerary:

MERZOUGA DESERT:

In Morocco, you can look at the dunes in several places. The most famous and accessible of them is called Merzouga.
Another place is the province of Zagora, which is more remote from tourist roads, with the small town village of Mhamid-el-Ghizlane, from where you can travel to more untouched places of the Sahara. It is unlikely that your trip to Morocco will include only the Sahara, therefore, within a two-week or less trip, it is more convenient to visit the desert in Merzouga (at least 2 nights), but if you have more than two weeks, then 3-5 nights can be allocated to Merzouga. The best time to visit the desert is during spring or fall. It is very hot in the summer, and in the winter months, it can get cold even during the day.

DADES GORGES:

Before you reach the narrowest part of the Dades Gorge you drive up a steep serpentine road (approx. At km 34). It is precisely this section that is probably the reason why it is much quieter on the road here than on the way to the Todra Gorge. Tour buses with large groups would have to turn back here at the latest. And so at the end of the extremely winding road, you can take a relaxed look down at the route that you just felt you have covered at a walking pace. But the following kilometres on the road also offer a consistently great view.

AIT BEN HADDOU:

The Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou is one of the most interesting sights in Morocco. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. The building is a small fortified village on a hill, built in the eleventh century, the locals call it simply “ksar”. In the Middle Ages, camel caravans passed through the city to Marrakech. Travellers needed to replenish food and water supplies. For this purpose, a fortress was built, which over time turned into a small city with its inhabitants and customs.

Ait Ben Haddou is also a favourite place for Hollywood filmmakers to shoot films. Such famous films as “The Mummy”, “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time”, “Gladiator”, “Alexander”, “Jesus of Nazareth”, “Pearl of the Nile”, “Indiana Jones”, and the series “Game of Thrones” and many others. It’s great that such amazing places can be preserved on our planet. And how great it is that we have the opportunity to see all this with our own eyes.

MARRAKECH:

One of the most famous and interesting cities in Morocco is the city of Marrakech. Its history goes back almost one thousand years. During this time it was the capital of the state more than once. The most interesting place in the city is, of course, its Medina, that is, the old part of the city, located behind the fortress wall. Winding narrow streets, noisy bazaars, old clay houses and a lot of people. In the very centre of the Medina, there is the Jemaa El Fna Square and the 12th-century Koutoubia Mosque. But this is the second version of this mosque. The first architect was built with violations in the orientation to Mecca and the ruler ordered his execution, the mosque was destroyed and rebuilt.

The square is always crowded, with loud merchants, funny water carriers, dirty beggars and colourful Bedouins. This place has incredible energy as if I got into a real oriental tale about Aladin.
Another interesting country, amazing city and unforgettable experience.
