Program itinerary of our 4-day desert trip from Marrakech to Fes

Day 1: Marrakech to Dades:

At 08:30 a.m., our guide will meet you at your riad in Marrakech. The departure of our 4 days trip from Marrakech to Fes via Merzouga desert, will start to Ouarzazate via the High Atlas Mountains of Tizi n’Tichka, at a height of 2,260m, where we will be treated to stunning scenery, including multiple photo stops of Berber communities that merge in with the earth’s colour. Then, we will continue our 4 days desert trip from Marrakech to Fes by driving to Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified town where we will visit the famed Kasbah (declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986). Several well-known films, including Gladiator, Obelix, Sahara with Penelope Cruz, and others, were shot in this stunning setting.

After lunch, we drive to Ouarzazate, commonly known as the “Gateway to the Desert,”. We continue our drive to the Valley of Roses through Skoura’s vast palm grove, where we may marvel at the more than 700 palm trees and densely packed kasbahs that dot the oasis and its environs. The Valley of Roses is a wonderful region where the most beautiful roses grow, which are used to make cosmetics like rose water, which is a highly popular product. The Museum of Roses is held in this valley once a year, in the month of May. Finally, we arrive in the Dades Valley, where we will stay in a Kasbah or Riad for the night.

Day 2: Dades to Merzouga:

After breakfast, we will travel to one of the most important locations in the Dades Valley to experience one of the best views of the valley: we will do so from one of the most strategic locations that offer us the mountains, from which we can observe the number of kasbahs present. Then, we arrive at the Todra Gorge after several stops along the road, it is near the town of Tineghir and is surrounded by palm trees and cottages all the way down the valley. In addition, climbers love the mountains here. The cliffs of Todra and Dades are among the best-known and most magnificent in Morocco.

We proceed to Merzouga after a brief hike in the Todra gorges and lunch in Touroug, where camels will be waiting to take you into the heart of the desert for an incredible sunset. Moreover, you’ll continue your journey after seeing the sunset to the tented camp, where you’ll have dinner and spend the night in a traditional nomadic tent.

Day 3: Merzouga desert excursion:

This is a special day dedicated entirely to the desert. Firstly, we’ll get up early in the morning to catch a spectacular sunrise over the sand dunes. Following that, we’ll return to Merzouga and, after a full breakfast, we’ll drive around Erg Chebbi, where we’ll connect to an off-road track, part of the former Paris-Dakar route. Also, the mountains near the Algerian border serve as the backdrop.

Then we’ll stop at Tissardmin’s oasis before continuing on to a nomadic community where we’ll learn about the Berbers’ lives and customs. After that, we will arrive in the village of Khamlia, originally from Mali, where you may relax with a cup of tea and a short concert of Gnawa spiritual music, with possible stops at panoramic sites of Erg Chebbi.
Return to the hotel, where you will have the afternoon free, as well as dinner and overnight accommodations.

Day 4: Merzouga to Fes:

After breakfast, we’ll go to the north of Morocco, passing via Tafilalet’s palm grove, where we’ll see one of the world’s largest palm groves, with 20 kilometres of palm trees. Then, when we arrive in the Ziz Valley, we’ll take some photos, fly over the valley, and look at the village of Aoufous.

Stop for a break and lunch at Midelt, which is located in the middle of the Middle Atlas. In the afternoon, we’ll continue our journey into the cedar forest of Azrou, where we might be able to spot some monkeys if we’re lucky. Then we carry on to Ifrane, which is 1,630 meters above sea level and located on the northwest edge of the Middle Atlas. Ifrane is known as “The Switzerland of Morocco” because of the width of its streets, urban growth, and architecture, which are all typical of an alpine city, making it feel out of place in Morocco.
At around 18h00, we arrive in Fes.
